Quick big report

Headed down to the river Sunday afternoon for a quick fishing experience with the family. Like many kids mind don’t want to spend the entire day doing it like dad so 4 hours or less is needed for our kids. We hit some back water areas that I have always thought would be good as I looked on a map over the winter. As we got into the area there was 2 other boats leaving – I didn’t know if this was a good sign or a bad sign. I started fishing a floating jerkbait as the sun was pounding and the water clarity was surprisingly good. After fishing down the bank I began to see plenty of shad which was encouraging. On one particular cast with I stopped jerking to help my wife or kid or something and as it was slick calm I wondered why I hadn’t seen the ripples of my jerkbait floating to the surface. And as I reeled down the rod bent over and it was on. I felt immediate good headshakes and I thought I had a good bass on. As it came up and gave me a good look I noted a nice white dot on the tail of what was suppose to me my nice bass. About 10 minutes before all this I asked my wife if she had brought the camera and she said, “That is your territory” and I replied with “good we didn’t bring it that means we will catch something picture worthy”. And indeed we did. After a short tussle and trying to find a place to grab the brute and not get trebles in my hand (because of course I didn’t have a net) I got her in. After a few cell phone pics and putting the scale to her I released her. She weighed 6lbs 1 oz. Unfortunately the kids zeroed and Joey gave it a solid hour of casting a beetle spin that I thought for sure he would at least get it stolen from a northern.

************** For all you river rats that know where it is because you fished there good for you. I didn't doctor the background because if you can figure it out good for you - just keep it to yourself :)
